The convener of the AI4Africa Initiative, Adeola Eka, has announced plans to train two million Africans in Artificial Intelligence by 2030 as part of efforts to equip the continent with digital skills for the future.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos recently, Eka said the initiative was established to ensure Africans become creators of AI solutions rather than mere consumers of emerging technologies.
She dismissed fears that AI would replace human workers, stressing that those who acquire AI skills would have an advantage in the evolving workplace.
“It is not AI that is taking jobs. Those who learn, master and use AI will take the jobs of those who do not,” she said.
Eka said the organisation had unveiled several programmes, including its 100 Kids in 10,000 Schools initiative, aimed at introducing AI education to one million schoolchildren across Nigeria, with free training already underway in selected schools.
