A human rights lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has commended security agencies for the reported rescue of 315 Nigerians abducted by jihadist terrorists across Kwara, Niger and Ogun states, but warned that the operation must not mark the end of government’s responsibility to the victims.

Ejiofor, in a statement issued Saturday, described the rescue as “a remarkable demonstration of courage, professionalism and sacrifice” by the security personnel involved.

But he said the reported condition of some of the rescued women had exposed the horrific reality endured by victims during captivity.

Citing the National Chairman of the Kaiama Development Association, Alhaji Yakubu Salihu, Ejiofor, former counsel to Nnamdi Kanu and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), said some of the women were reportedly pregnant for their captors, while others had given birth during about six months in captivity.
