More than 670,000 pensioners will benefit from the abolition, starting January 1, of the so-called “personal difference” that has affected the level of their pensions.

Those affected were people who retired prior to May 13, 2016, when a pension reform was enacted.

Those affected did not see any increase in their pensions from 2023-25, even though the current government increased pensions, a measure which benefitted more recent pensioners.

The “personal difference” – the difference between what a pensioner would normally be entitled to and their actual payment – was partly abolished at the start of 2026, and this category saw pay raises for the first time in years. They will be due for a significant raise starting next year, but will never fully recover their losses.

It is estimated that pensions will rise 2.7% in 2027.
