The Choolaimedu police arrested five people on Saturday (August 8, 2026) for allegedly blackmailing and assaulting a 30-year-old man.A senior city police official said Sudharsan, a resident of Padmanabha Nagar who works for a pharmaceutical company, had recently married Krishnaveni. He had allegedly contacted a Namitha, who lived near his house, and spoken to her about marrying her.According to the police, she recorded their conversation and, along with her lawyer friend, Monisha, allegedly demanded ₹5 lakh from Sudharsan to keep the recording secret. The two women allegedly contacted Sudharsan a few days ago and, when he told them that he did not have the money, assaulted him, the police said.Based on a complaint filed by the Choolaimedu police, a team after conducting an investigation arrested Namitha, 21, Monisha, 26, her husband Balakrishnan, 30, Ganesh, 28, and Sivaranjani, 21.They were arrested under six sections, including charges of illegal confinement, criminal intimidation, and causing grievous hurt.
