The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has intensified efforts to position artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and digital diplomacy at the centre of Nigeria’s foreign policy, as it seeks to strengthen the country’s influence in global affairs and consolidate its leadership in Africa’s digital transformation.
This came to the fore at the Second Seminar on Anticipatory, Cyber and Digital Diplomacy held in Abuja on Tuesday, where senior government officials, diplomats, policymakers and technology experts explored strategies for integrating digital statecraft into Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements.
The seminar, themed “From Awareness to Activation: Operationalising AI, Cyber and Digital Statecraft for Nigeria’s Foreign Policy,” was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of efforts to prepare Nigeria’s diplomatic institutions for emerging technological realities.
Sola Enikanolaiye, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, said rapid advances in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and digital technologies were fundamentally reshaping international relations, diplomacy and global governance, making it imperative for Nigeria to build the institutional capacity required to remain competitive.
