A deep-sea mining executive arrived at a roundtable with Donald Trump equipped with a perfect souvenir suited for the President – a literal ball of gold.

The President hosted a roundtable event at the State Department on Friday where he announced a $100 million investment into US mining universities.

Sitting around a U-shaped table with Trump in the middle, top Cabinet members and mining industry executives and professors praised the President's policy announcement.

But American Ocean Minerals Chairman Tom Albanese clearly caught the President's attention.

He brought with him a small golden ball that he claimed was a replica of a deep-sea nodule, a natural ball-like formation full of rare metals that take millions of years to develop in the deepest parts of the sea.
