Five years ago, if you wanted to build a powerful enterprise application, you had to hire a powerful team. You needed the best of the best, with years of experience in UI/UX, Java, Python and middleware. The list went on and on. Most startup companies couldn’t afford that kind of talent.
Now, with the advent of AI, it’s possible for anyone to build their dream application—no dream team required. Software has become so commoditized that creating the next big CRM or social media platform doesn’t feel like a huge leap. Nvidia cofounder and CEO Jensen Huang said in a recent interview, "This is absolutely the single greatest time to start a company.”
I believe that for the first time in human history, dreamers can truly start dreaming and building big without technical limitations. You need a dream that you want to realize. You need perseverance to truly commit to this dream. And you need resilience to keep building and improving on your dream, aligning your core capabilities with your customer priorities.
I’m convinced that this is the most valuable role a CEO can play today. To run a successful software development company, you have to move away from the traditional high-level focus on P&L statements and balance sheets and become a hands-on builder, someone who can roll up their sleeves and create real products for real customers.
