What classifier overhead actually means
Before Claude Code executes certain tasks, especially in Auto Mode where the AI operates with greater autonomy, safety classifiers review the requests. Those classifiers consume compute resources, and Anthropic passes a portion of that cost along to users.
In practical terms, if a developer spent $100 on tokens during an autonomous coding session, the classifier overhead could tack on an additional $15 to $28. For teams burning through significant token volumes on complex projects, this added up fast.
