Following the meeting, parts of the resolution indicated that concerns over the cost of meals at the canteen dedicated to doctors on call would be addressed.
Resident doctors at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) resumed work on Friday after calling off their more than two-week-old strike, SaharaReporters has learnt.
The strike, which commenced on July 20, 2026, was called off on Thursday, August 6, 2026, after the hospital management and the Nigerian government committed to addressing the doctors’ welfare concerns.
Credible sources told SaharaReporters that the development followed recent negotiations between the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), which had threatened to commence a nationwide strike on August 10, and a Nigerian government delegation led by the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The meeting, which was said to have been held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, also specifically addressed the grievances of resident doctors at LUTH, which had led to the industrial action.
