Sitting in Kuwait, an alert engineer rescued her wife, I. Kalaiselvi (36) from two armed robbers who assaulted the woman and robbed gold jewels at swordpoint at her house near Melur on Thursday afternoon.Unaware about the lone woman was talking over mobile phone with her husband, Ilangovan, working abroad, the robbers, K. Parasuraman (21) and K. Dinesh (22) of Puthupatti, barged into the house at Kottanathampatti at around 2 p.m.The armed robbers placed a sword on the woman’s throat and one of them blowed punches on her face. After pushing the woman down on the floor, they started to snatch the gold jewelleries from her.Even as the robbery was under way, their accomplice, P. Ranjith of Singampunari, stood out of the house as a precautionary measure.Meanwhile, Elangovan, who is a mechanical engineer, sensed that his wife, who was alone at home, was in trouble and immediately alerted their neighbours in Kottanathampatti.The neighbours found the door locked from inside. They broke open the door and rescued the woman.Meanwhile, the robbers, who were caught unawares of the sudden development, ran into the restroom and locked themselves from inside.Alerted by local people, Keelavalavu police rushed to the spot and apprehended both the accused.Meanwhile, Ranjith had fled the scene after he noticed people rushing towards the house.Police have booked the trio for robbery using weapons.
