A car carrying a six-member pilgrim family from Karnataka plunged into a gorge after veering off the first ghat road leading to Tirupati on Friday.
A 72-year-old pilgrim from Bengaluru died and five members of his family, including two children, were injured after the car in which they were travelling plunged about 15 feet into a gorge after crashing through the parapet wall on the first ghat road leading to Tirupati on Friday.The accident occurred near the 22nd hairpin bend after the driver reportedly dozed off, causing the vehicle to veer off the road.The injured were shifted to the TTD-run Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) in Tirupati, where the elderly pilgrim succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.According to preliminary reports, the family, comprising four adults and two children from Gottigere in Bengaluru, was returning home after offering prayers at the hill shrine.The police have registered a case and are collecting further details.
