Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Tesla will invest $16.8 billion in their planned joint TeraFab in Grimes County, Texas.
However, potential future expansion phases could push total investment much higher, SpaceX said in a post on its website on August 6, claiming that the chip fab will span more than 100 million square feet (9.3 million sqm) of manufacturing space at full build-out.

In a post on his social media platform X, Musk described the fab as “the largest and most valuable building on Earth by far,” adding that “TeraFab will be 50 times the size of the Pentagon when complete.”
SpaceX said the facility will employ at least 3,000 people, many of whom will be from Grimes and nearby Brazos County. In June 2026, the project secured a 100 percent property tax abatement after County commissioners voted 4-1 to approve three proposals.
