Tesla $TSLA and SpaceX confirmed Thursday that their jointly developed semiconductor factory, called Terafab, will be built in Grimes County, Texas, with an initial investment of $16.8 billion and a planned workforce of at least 3,000 people.

SpaceX said the facility will bring logic, memory, packaging, and testing together at a single site, with the total footprint exceeding 100 million square feet. The company said it plans to draw water from the nearby Gibbons Creek Reservoir rather than local groundwater. Governor Greg Abbott $ABT's office said a Texas Enterprise Fund grant of $30 million has been extended to SpaceX, and the project qualifies under the state's Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation program.
