MANILA, Philippines — Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez has accused Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla of showing prejudice against him, after the latter accused him of causing the recantation of some former bodyguards of ex-Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co.
In a statement on Friday, Romualdez said Remulla’s claims that he forced the recantation of four of the 18 ex-bodyguards are not true, and only shows that the allegations against him are “false and trumped-up.”
The bodyguards have claimed last February 2026 that they were instructed by Co, the former chairperson of the House of Representatives’ committee on appropriations, to deliver money to different lawmakers, including Romualdez. Now, four of the 18 bodyguards have recanted their sworn affidavit.
“The Ombudsman’s accusation that I am behind the recantations of the former Marines is absolutely not true. This shows how extremely prejudiced he is against me,” Romualdez said.
