BACOLOD CITY – A police officer died from drowning while trying to save two companions while on patrol in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, on Friday morning.
The Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO NIR) identified the fatality as PMSgt. Fernando P. Marfa, who was assigned to the Cadiz City Police Station.
Marfa was conducting a joint patrol with members of the local Bantay Dagat at around 10:30 a.m. when two of his companions were swept away by strong currents while crossing a river, the PRO NIR reported.
Marfa immediately jumped in to assist the drowning individuals, but he was overpowered by strong river and went underwater.
