Before getting to the hardware itself, I do want to shout out the name. I’m endlessly amused that someone at Sony decided to name its flagship headphones the “WH-1000XM5.” You look at Apple and they have the AirPods Max, or at Samsung with their Galaxy Buds—both flashy names that get your attention and fit along with their lineup of other products. Sony though seems more than fine just using what is essentially a SKU number as its customer facing branding and I think that’s just lovely. In this case, the headphones don’t need some eye-catching name as the hardware speaks for itself.
