Property developer Citylink has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with a local power plant to use waste heat from its data center to power a district heating network in Wrocław, western Poland.
If built, the system will capture heat from Citylink’s 24MW Wrocław Stadion data center – still under construction – and siphon it into the municipal district heating network.
When approached for comment, a spokesperson for the firm told DCD that the system is still in its design and development stages, and it was therefore unable to provide an estimate for its cost or completion.
“We are consistently seeking new heat sources that can support the transformation of Wrocław's heating system,” said Dariusz Witkowski, president of the management board for Kogeneracja, the local power plant operator.
“Our collaboration with Citylink is another step in developing projects utilizing waste heat. It confirms the growing role of digital infrastructure in creating a modern, energy-efficient economy. This solution allows for more efficient use of locally available energy.”
