A teenage student killed eight people, including his grandparents, before dying during a shooting at a high school in Thailand's Nonthaburi province, just north of Bangkok, authorities said.
According to Thai police, the attacker first used his grandfather's handgun to fatally shoot his grandparents before traveling to Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district. There, he opened fire, killing three teachers and three students. The suspect also died during the incident. While some local reports said police shot him, others reported that he took his own life.
Police said the gunman fired 26 rounds during the attack, while investigators recovered another 34 rounds of ammunition at the scene. Authorities also reported that 15 people were injured.
The shooting prompted a major emergency response, with police officers, rescue teams, and medical personnel rushing to the school. Students, teachers, and staff were evacuated as authorities secured the area. Traffic around the campus came to a near standstill as worried parents arrived to pick up their children.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed condolences to the victims' families and said he had instructed government agencies to provide assistance to those affected.
