Lithuanian military intelligence has warned that Russia may be considering attacks on critical infrastructure in the Baltic states using drones of Ukrainian origin in an effort to disguise responsibility for potential strikes.
Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas said the country's intelligence services have obtained information suggesting Moscow is exploring "unconventional kinetic attacks" against key infrastructure across the Baltic region.
"We have information that Russia is considering the possibility of conducting unconventional kinetic attacks on critical infrastructure in the Baltic region. Ukrainian-made drones may be used for this," Kaunas said in remarks to Lithuanian public television.
The warning follows recent comments by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, who said there is a growing risk of Russian attacks targeting the country's critical transport and energy infrastructure.
According to Lithuanian officials, such operations could involve both conventional military methods and acts of sabotage aimed at disrupting essential services.
