Lithuanian military intelligence says it has information indicating that Russia is considering using Ukrainian-made drones to carry out attacks on critical infrastructure in the Baltic region, with the aim of obscuring responsibility for any strikes, according to a report published Thursday by 15min.lt.
Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas confirmed the assessment to the outlet.
“We have data that Russia is considering conducting unconventional kinetic attacks against critical infrastructure in the Baltic region,” Kaunas was quoted as saying. “It is likely that Russia could use Ukrainian-made drones for this purpose.”
The minister did not provide details about potential targets or the timing of any possible attacks.
According to the report, Russia could deploy captured Ukrainian drones in an attempt to create uncertainty over the origin of an attack and deny responsibility for striking NATO territory.
