The comedian's latest project is something a little different than some fans may expect.After two live action comedies, the creator of The Office is returning to animation. His previous cartoon like offering was the television version of his podcast The Ricky Gervais Show.This time, Alley Cats is very much in the sitcom genre. The adult animated sitcom follows a group of feral British cats from all walks of society as they seek companionship while discussing life's absurdities.Gervais has described the series as 'like Only Fools and Horses mixed with four legs bad, two legs good'. He has also said that the characters are always 'rallying against a cruel world'.The comedian serves as creator, lead voice actor, and co-director alongside experienced animation director Elliot Dear. Dear has previously worked on high-profile projects including Netflix's Love, Death + Robots.Fans will recognise familiar voices as Gervais reunites with several former co-stars including those who also featured in After Life and Derek. This includes Kerry Godliman, Tom Basden, Diane Morgan, Tony Way and David Earl. EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy also features in the cast.The season lands on Netflix today (August 7).
