Captain Ruhan Nel says they will put in a collective Stormers performance against the All Blacks rather than chasing individual ambitions in the opening match of Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry on Friday in Cape Town.
There will be no chasing individual goals from the Stormers players, but a collective effort to bag an international scalp when they face the All Blacks on Friday evening in the opening tour match of Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry.
It’s a tricky situation for the Cape side at DHL Stadium (7pm kick-off); they are only weeks into their pre-season training ahead of the United Rugby Championship (URC) start, while a handful of fringe Springboks will look to impress Rassie Erasmus and his Bok management with an eye on taking part in the Tests of the series.
Eighthman Evan Roos, hooker André-Hugo Venter, props Ntuthuko Mchunu and Neethling Fouché, and flanker Deon Fourie are all on the Bok periphery. For the likes of captain Ruhan Nel, winger Seabelo Senatla, flanker Hacjivah Dayimani and lock Adré Smith, it’s an opportunity to face an All Blacks side for the first time.
Exciting Junior Springbok flyhalf Yaqeen Ahmed will also make his debut as he pushes for URC honours this season.
