The Sofia-registered tour operator Robinson Tours has declared insolvency after leaving dozens of Hungarian tourists without the vacations they had already paid for on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast.
The company announced that it "no longer has the necessary financial resources to fulfill its obligations" and has filed a request with the Commercial Department of the Sofia City Court to begin bankruptcy proceedings. According to the Hungarian tourism website Turizmus.com, affected customers have been advised to seek compensation from Robinson Tours' insurer, Axiom Insurance Company AD.
In its explanation, the tour operator cited several factors behind its financial collapse. The company pointed to uncertainty caused by the crisis in the Middle East, rising aviation fuel prices that reduced turnover, increased competition from low-cost airlines operating flights to Bulgaria, and what it described as market distortions created by new tourism companies offering aggressive deals in Hungary.
Robinson Tours EOOD is registered in Sofia and is owned and managed by Hungarian citizen Aron Jakoc.
The company's financial problems are not new. Hungarian news outlet Index.hu recalled that Robinson Tours, while previously operating as a Hungary-registered tour operator, ceased operations in 2020 after coronavirus travel restrictions severely disrupted the tourism industry. At that time, affected travelers were compensated through the company's insurance coverage. The company later returned to the Hungarian market and launched new holiday packages for 2026, including charter vacations to Bulgaria.
