An Afghan man was ordered held in custody pending trial over the killing of 38-year-old British woman Elisabeth Jane Ross, whose body was found inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in Athens’ Kypseli district on July 18.
The 26-year-old defendant, a boxer who entered Greece from Afghanistan as an unaccompanied minor in 2016, faces charges of intentional homicide, robbery and weapons-law violations. According to his lawyer, he exercised his right to remain silent before the investigating magistrate, arguing that the case file is incomplete and awaiting additional evidence.
During the preliminary investigation, the suspect denied killing Ross. He allegedly claimed he found her dead in a bathroom and, fearing blame, moved the body the next day to the building. Prosecutors say he used the victim’s bank cards and sent messages to acquaintances to mislead them.
