The 10th edition of the Aminu Good Works Foundation Nigeria Basketball Combine will hold in Ibadan and Abuja this month, with NBA veteran and foundation founder Al-Farouq Aminu urging young players to complement their talent with character and professionalism.
The three-day Ibadan leg is scheduled for August 7–9 at the Lekan Salami Stadium, before the programme moves to Abuja from August 13–16 at the MO Arena.
Speaking during the official virtual media briefing ahead of the combine, Aminu described basketball as a profession that demands more than athletic ability, urging aspiring players to understand the importance of professionalism, character and the business side of the game.
“Basketball is a job. When I was younger, I thought my talent and ability to play were all I needed. That’s simply not true,” Aminu said.
Reflecting on his own journey, the former NBA forward explained that many young athletes underestimate the importance of professionalism and personal conduct until they begin competing at the highest level.
