MANILA, Philippines — Two men were arrested in connection with P6.5-million worth of allegedly smuggled cigarettes confiscated in the waters off Zamboanga City, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Friday.

Personnel of the 2nd Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company (ZCMFC) intercepted the purported contraband on a motorized boat near Layag-Layag Island in Barangay Talon-Talon last Thursday, according to PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. in a statement.

The two men arrested were only identified as residents of Barangay Rio Hondo also in Zamboanga City.
