Getty ImagesAccording to People, Hilton was then hospitalised under Florida’s Baker Act – a law allowing authorities to involuntarily hold someone for a period of time if they pose a threat of harm to themselves or others.The 48-year-old’s family uploaded a statement to his blog, PerezHilton.com, on Friday (AEST) expressing gratitude for the love and support they received over the past few days, a period that they described as being “nearly unbearable for our family”.“Just minutes before the public livestream incident, Perez’s children, niece and sister were inside the home,” the statement said.“When it became clear that Perez was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself, they immediately fled to protect the children from witnessing any further trauma.”The family said its priority was “helping the children begin to heal from what they experienced”. However, they said the situation had been “incredibly difficult and emotional for us, made even harder because very little information has been made available to our family. While we continue to wait for further updates, we remain hopeful.”Following the livestreaming event, Miami-Dade County police were stationed outside Hilton’s home.According to People, a US spokesperson for TikTok alerted law enforcement to Hilton’s livestream and his account was subsequently banned.Hilton recently moved from Las Vegas to Miami with his young family (the single dad has three children born via surrogacy).
