After sharing initial details about OpenAI’s plans for its first smart device, Bloomberg has published a new report with more information about its form factor and price. Here are the details.
OpenAI’s speaker may cost upwards of $300
A few weeks ago, Bloomberg reported that OpenAI’s first device would be a battery-powered portable speaker equipped with a camera and other sensors, as well as “mechanical elements that can move on their own, creating a sense that it is alive and not just an object responding to commands.”
The report said OpenAI was developing “roughly five different products” but planned to begin with the speaker, which it hoped to unveil this year ahead of a 2027 release.
The publication added that this timeline, however, could change depending on the outcome of Apple’s lawsuit accusing OpenAI of using trade secrets stolen by former Apple employees to develop its upcoming hardware products.
