Four persons were arrested for allegedly waylaying a BMW car near St. Thomas Mount, assaulting its driver and fleeing with the vehicle on Wednesday.The arrested persons were identified as Karthik, 41, of Sriperumbudur; Shankar, 51, of Nandambakkam; Prasad, 40, of St. Thomas Mount; and Prasad’s younger brother Ramachandran, 38.According to police, Abikash, 21, of Anna Nagar, was asked by his uncle Meganathan, who runs a car mechanic shop in Kolathur, to drive a BMW car belonging to a customer to the owner near Nanganallur Metro station after completing repairs.While Abikash was driving the car near Nanganallur on Tuesday night, four men allegedly intercepted the vehicle, abused him and assaulted him before forcing him out of the car. They then fled with the BMW and the car they came.Based on Abikash’s complaint, St. Thomas Mount police registered a case and launched an investigation. A team from the station’s crime wing traced and arrested the four suspects on Wednesday. Police said the BMW was recovered and a car used by the suspects, along with four mobile phones, including an iPhone, were seized.During interrogation, police found that Karthik was running a used-car dealership and had a financial dispute with the BMW owner. Police suspect that he and his associates took the car following the dispute. The four accused were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. Published - August 07, 2026 12:51 am IST
