TVTV NewsThe One ShowOne of the former star's of Death in Paradise has shared some details about his other hit crime drama20:05, 06 Aug 2026Former Death in Paradise star Ben Miller has made a confession about his latest crime series.‌The actor used to solve mysteries on the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie as DI Richard Poole in the BBC crime hit, but now plays a criminology professor with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder who helps police crack cases in Professor T.‌The ITV show's fourth series is due to start later this month, and Ben shared some details as he appeared on The One Show alongside his co-star Sunetra Sarker.‌Presenter Roman Kemp, who was hosting the BBC programme with Alex Jones, noted that the professor takes up drumming in the new series of Professor T, but when he asked how that was going, Ben confessed: "Well, I'm thrilled to tell you I've stopped playing."He said it had been "great" but admitted: "I kind of resisted it a bit to begin with because I was a little bit frightened of drumming. But then I was sort of, I thought it was the idea that it was a bit like tapping for the professor and it was a way of kind of him calming himself."‌The star also opened up about his character's back story, explaining that the professor's past was "traumatic"."That trauma sort of haunts him all the way through the stories," he said. "And it's a trauma that I think he really tries to grapple with."He's really on a journey to try and kind of enter the real world. He started in this ivory tower, and he's now sort of coming out. He's helping the Cambridgeshire police solve truly baffling crimes."‌Sunetra plays DCI Maiya Goswami in the series, and said that her and Ben's characters "could not be more different"."I mean, my character is all about evidence-based," explained the TV star. "She is procedural. She is hard talking. She says it how it is.Article continues below"And the professor is his own animal that kind of creates his own world where he works it out. So we're never in the picture.
