Death in Paradise fans are still missing one detective more than 10 years after his exit from the BBC series18:08, 03 Jun 2026Professor T: Ben Miller teases new series on This MorningFans missing a beloved Death in Paradise character have been pointed towards an ITV series that could plug the gap.‌Actor Ben Miller, who portrayed Detective Richard Poole in the BBC drama, still has audiences yearning for more of him, despite his exit from the programme back in 2014.‌Since his departure, several other detectives have stepped into his role, amongst them Kris Marshall, who took on the part of DI Humphrey Goodman, and most recently DI Mervin Wilson, brought to life by actor Don Gilet.‌However, in a recent Reddit post, a devoted fan suggested another show that might help those pining for Richard. In a thread entitled "I miss Richard," one user responded sympathetically, saying: "I think loads of us do."Offering their suggestion, one user then wrote: "Try 'Professor T' on ITV." With another chiming in: "It's fantastic."‌Professor T is a British crime drama featuring Miller as the brilliant yet quirky criminologist Professor Jasper Tempest from the University of Cambridge, reports the Express. The show also stars Emma Naomi, Barney White, and Frances de la Tour. Adapted from the hugely popular Belgian drama of the same name, it follows Professor T as he applies his extraordinary analytical abilities to assist with police investigations, while navigating daily life with obsessive-compulsive disorder. The series originally launched on BritBox in June 2021 before subsequently airing on ITV that same summer, with an American release on PBS shortly afterwards. There are currently four series available for fans to enjoy, with a fifth series being filmed this year.‌Miller portrayed DI Richard Poole in Death in Paradise for just over two series before the character suffered an untimely demise in the opening episode of the third series. Richard was murdered during a reunion gathering by one of his former university acquaintances, paving the way for the arrival of DI Humphrey Goodman.Throughout the years, he has spoken openly about his motivations for departing Death in Paradise. The actor left the programme in 2014 as he wished to dedicate more time to his family, especially as he was expecting to become a father and wanted to avoid the pressure the lengthy overseas filming commitments were placing on his relationship.‌He previously told Digital Spy: "Two weeks after I arrived in the Caribbean, Jessica found out that she was pregnant. I've just got divorced, and I've finally met somebody, and now I'm on the other side of the world, and we're having a baby."That's a proper curveball to be on the end of. So I knew what I had to do to get my wife back - quit Death in Paradise!"Article continues belowProfessor T is available to watch on ITVX.
