SASSA Gold Card deadline: Who must switch and who does not need a new card

These are the people that should and shouldn't replace the Sassa card.

More than 280,000 South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) beneficiaries who still use Gold Cards must replace them with new Postbank Black Cards before the August 31 deadline.

But before you panic, not every SASSA beneficiary needs to queue for a replacement card.

Postbank has clarified that the switch only affects beneficiaries who use SASSA Gold Cards to access their social grants. Those who already use alternative payment methods do not need to make the change.

Beneficiaries who still have a SASSA Gold Card and use it to withdraw their grants, make purchases or access payments must replace it with a Postbank Black Card before August 31 2026.
