The bipartisan bill would require AI companies to maintain the ability to shut down or suspend their models

Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., said Thursday that a series of rogue AI hacks at major technology companies is adding urgency to passing legislation that would require AI firms to maintain a mechanism for shutting down their models.
"We need to get this bill across the finish line this year because the advanced closed-weight models are already doing, as you noted, unauthorized hacks of other companies," Rep. Lieu said on CNBC's "Squawk Box" Thursday.
