According to the police, an altercation subsequently ensued between the late inspector and the commercial bus driver after both men alighted.
The Enugu State Police Command has provided further details on the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Inspector Ikechukwu Obodo, a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree holder who was killed in a hit-and-run accident along Bissala Road in Enugu.
Releasing preliminary findings on the incident, the Command revealed that the late officer was travelling to his duty post at about 7:00 p.m. on July 5, 2026, when the commercial bus conveying him failed to stop at his designated bus stop near Pascan Jake Bus Stop, dropping him a few metres ahead instead.

Unfortunately, in the heat of the argument, an unidentified speeding vehicle struck Inspector Obodo and immediately fled the scene, while the commercial bus driver also drove away from the spot.
