Uwujaren clarified that the commission’s action affected only one account and should not be interpreted as a blanket freeze on the state’s finances.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has defended its decision to place a temporary restriction on one of the Osun State Government’s bank accounts, insisting the action was lawful and aimed at preserving public funds amid suspicious financial transactions.

Speaking in an interview with Arise News, EFCC Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren, said the commission detected unusual activities on the account after observing significant transfers to several corporate entities within a week.

“We observed in the past one week that activities on that account looked suspicious, and based on the mandate of the Commission, we took the step of placing a restriction on that account to preserve it,” he said.

Uwujaren clarified that the commission’s action affected only one account and should not be interpreted as a blanket freeze on the state’s finances.
