The Interior Ministry rejects the accusations and says the technology poses no security risk.
The Interior Ministry is installing Russian-made traffic cameras on the country's roads, the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party has alleged, warning that the move could pose a serious security risk as the system is expected to have access to state databases.
The party also claims the cameras could be misused to monitor the movements of vehicles and individuals and criticises the ministry for failing to publish the procurement contract.
In response, the ministry rejected the allegations, saying the equipment in question is not manufactured in Russia, as confirmed by a certificate issued by the Slovak Metrology Institute. It also said PS has yet to provide any relevant evidence to support its claims.
However, the ministry did not specify who manufactures the cameras, nor has it published the contract.
