Police have launched an intensive manhunt for three armed suspects who allegedly kidnapped an elderly Free State couple, held them captive for nearly two days and stole money from their bank accounts after a violent house robbery in Kopanong.
A 73-year-old man and his 67-year-old wife endured a harrowing two-day ordeal after they were allegedly abducted by armed robbers who invaded their home in Bophelong, Free State, and forced them to accompany the suspects while their bank accounts were drained.
According to the South African Police Service, the incident occurred during the early hours of Sunday, 2 August 2026, when three armed men allegedly broke into the couple's home by forcing open a sliding door.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli said the victims were asleep when they were confronted by the suspects.
