The Thanjavur East Police have arrested two DMK partymen, based on a complaint lodged by Mahalakshmi, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam Thanjavur Central District Executive Committee member.According to the police, Ms. Mahalakshmi in her complaint said that on August 4, TVK Women’s Wing of Thanjavur Central District organised a protest demonstration condemning the “derogatory” speech against a woman by the Leader of Opposition and DMK Youth Wing leader Udhayanidhi Stalin on August 3.While the TVK cadres were staging their demonstration, a group of DMK cadres came very close to the TVK party demonstration site and set fire to an effigy of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Jospeh Vijay. They also pulled down the TVK party flags erected near the demonstration site. As their action led to a tense situation which later culminated in throwing of stones and footwear, some of the TVK cadres were injured. Ms. Mahalakshmi demanded action against the former Thanjavur Mayor S. Ramanathan, councillors R.K. Neelakandan and Annaprakash and other DMK cadres.Based on her complaint, Mr. Neelakandan and Vayalur Karthi, DMK Youth Wing Deputy Organiser, Medical College area, were arrested on August 6, the police said.
