A comprehensive Motor Vehicle Aggregator Policy for app-based aggregators will soon be rolled out, said Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar.The policy, Mr Prabhakar said, intends to make transport tech-driven, and transport services passenger-friendly, safer, and more transparent.He said that a committee which was constituted to study several aspects of aggregator-based transport services has completed extensive consultations with stakeholders. The committee is in its final stages of preparing its recommendations. The report is expected to be submitted to the government shortly.Mr Prabhakar stated that the committee examined a host of issues, including passenger safety and security, welfare of drivers associated with aggregator platforms, vehicle fitness, permits, and insurance. As regards aggregators or apps vis-a-vis drivers, topics of study and deliberation include registration and regulatory mechanisms for fare transparency, grievance redressal systems, safety of women passengers and drivers, digital monitoring, data sharing between aggregators and government departments, and the promotion of electric and environmentally sustainable vehicles, said the Minister.
