The Transport Ministry has launched three new measures to support app-based transport drivers, while tightening safety oversight. The ministry asked the Department of Land Transport (DLT) to accelerate efforts to ensure all app-based public transport operators fully comply with the new regulations within four months, said Siripong Angkasakulkiat, deputy transport minister.
The first measure focuses on reducing costs for drivers seeking to legally register vehicles under the public transport category known as "Ror Yor 18".
Authorities are preparing to amend insurance rules by removing the requirement for first-class insurance coverage and replacing it with mandatory public liability insurance, helping to reduce expenses while maintaining passenger protection standards.
The second measure centres on passenger safety, with authorities encouraging the installation of CCTV systems inside vehicles and introducing official safety verification stickers for compliant cars.
The third measure allows companies and legal entities to own vehicles and lease them to drivers for ride-hailing work, opening opportunities for individuals who do not own cars.
