DeepSeek, the Chinese AI lab that rattled Silicon Valley earlier last year with its cost-efficient models, has reportedly invested approximately $20.8 million in Unitree Robotics ahead of the robotics company’s planned IPO on the Shanghai STAR Market. The offering could raise around 4.2 billion yuan, roughly $610 million, and value Unitree at up to 50 billion yuan, or approximately $7 billion.
Here’s the thing: the investment claim hasn’t been independently confirmed through regulatory filings or official statements from either company. What we do know is that Unitree’s IPO ambitions are real, the two companies share a hometown in Hangzhou, and their founders were both present at a high-profile meeting with President Xi Jinping in February 2025. That’s a lot of proximity, but proximity isn’t a term sheet.
What we actually know about the deal
The reported $20.8 million stake would be modest relative to Unitree’s overall raise, representing roughly 3.4% of the targeted $610 million. Neither company has publicly commented on the investment. No prospectus filing or cornerstone investor disclosure has surfaced to confirm DeepSeek’s participation.
