The first coal rake from Singareni Collieries’ Naini coal mine in Odisha has reached the Singareni Thermal Power Plant in Telangana, marking the start of coal supplies from the newly operational mine.
The first coal rake from Singareni Collieries’ (SCCL) Naini coal mine in Odisha reached the Singareni Thermal Power Plant (STPP) at Jaipur in Telangana’s Mancherial district on Thursday, marking the commencement of coal supplies from the newly operational mine.Loaded with approximately 4,000 tonnes of high-quality G-10 grade coal, the rake travelled 1,131 kilometres, marking the first-ever transportation of coal from an SCCL-owned mine outside Telangana to the State.The Ministry of Coal allotted the Naini Coal Block to SCCL in August 2015. However, for nearly nine years, the project remained stalled due to pending statutory clearances. Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka inaugurated coal production at the Naini Mine in April 2025.In a message, Bhatti Vikramarka, who is currently on an official visit to the United States, the development reflected the SCCL’s growing operational capabilities and expanding presence beyond its traditional mining areas, according to a release.Published on August 6, 2026
