President Donald Trump is preparing to impose a 15% tariff and a series of minimum import prices on polysilicon and products derived from it, according to Reuters. An announcement could come as soon as Thursday.

Reuters reported that the scope of the measures would cover raw polysilicon along with downstream products — wafers, photovoltaic cells, and finished solar modules. Bloomberg reported that the policy grew out of a Section 232 Trade Expansion Act probe by the Commerce Department examining how dependent the U.S. has become on overseas sources for polysilicon.
