Suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department deputy chief Brig. Julius Mkhwanazi is apparing at the Brakpan Magistrate's Court for on a charge of murdering Emmanuel Mbense.
Suspended EMPD deputy chief Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi and his four co-accused will remain behind bars after their bail application in connection with the murder of Emmanuel Mbense was postponed to next week Thursday.
This comes as their bail application was postponed to August 13.
Proceedings in the murder case of Mbense got under way in the Brakpan Magistrate's Court on Thursday afternoon, with legal arguments erupting over the State's decision to classify the matter as a Schedule 6 offence and oppose bail for all five accused.
Mkhwanazi appeared alongside former EMPD officer Keisha-Leigh Stols, EMPD officer Adrian MacKenzie, SAPS officer Bhekokwakhe Sibande and civilian Cobus Janse van Rensburg.
