The Kano State Government has suspended all activities under the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention programme across the state and constituted a high-level committee to investigate the implementation of the intervention.
The government also suspended the programme’s manager with immediate effect and transferred the programme’s responsibilities to the most senior officer pending the outcome of the investigation.
The development was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer, Kano State Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Abubakar.
Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention is a preventive public health intervention implemented in states with high seasonal malaria transmission, particularly in northern Nigeria, where eligible children receive antimalarial medicines during the rainy season to reduce malaria-related illness and deaths.
According to the statement, the decision followed the constitution of a high-level investigative committee mandated to conduct a comprehensive review of the planning, distribution and implementation processes of the programme in the state.
