Public Works and Infrastructure Deputy Minister Sihle Zikalala officially opened the Wentworth Rapid Response Gender-Based Violence facility at Wentworth police station, south of Durban.
Human AID SA and Tropic Plastic donated a park home structure to the Wentworth police station, south of Durban, on Thursday for counselling and caring for victims of Gender-Based Violence.
Public Works and Infrastructure Deputy Minister Sihle Zikalala launched the Wentworth Rapid Response and GBV facility. He said the facility will assist in the fight against GBV, ensuring victims receive prompt, co-ordinated and friendly support. It will also house the Department of Social Development counsellors, who will give the necessary empowerment support.
“Wentworth faces high levels of violent crime, gang violence and drug-related offences, often leading to gender-based violence. The centre will cater to women and children affected by sexual and physical violence,” he said.
Zikalala said the launch of the GBV centre shows commitment from all stakeholders in the fight against GBV.
