Bature Shuwa, the Executive Chairman of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, has raised the alarm over what he described as an alarming escalation in attacks by suspected terrorists, saying they have shifted their focus from civilians to security operatives and local vigilantes.
He urged the Federal Government to urgently strengthen security operations in Riyom and other vulnerable communities.
Shuwa made this known on Thursday after visiting Jol community, where three vigilantes, who were biological brothers, were killed during Tuesday night’s attack while on community patrol.
Describing the killings as heartbreaking and unacceptable, the council chairman said the worsening security situation in Riyom had reached an alarming level and demanded immediate intervention from the Federal Government to halt the recurring attacks.
He recalled that barely 24 hours before the Jol attack, suspected terrorists ambushed a joint security patrol at Danwal in Ganawuri District, killing security operatives and carting away their service rifles.
