The incident happened in Majdal Zun, southern Lebanon, on August 5-6, 2026. Israeli forces entered a building that turned out to be rigged with explosives. The blast killed two IDF reservists and wounded four more.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz immediately questioned why soldiers were sent into the booby-trapped structure at all. That kind of public second-guessing from a sitting defense minister is unusual, and it signals real internal friction over how Israel is conducting operations in Lebanese territory.
Washington pulls the leash, again
The US has now intervened multiple times since May 2026 to prevent Israel from launching broader strikes against Hezbollah. The reason is straightforward: Washington is deep in diplomatic talks with Iran, and a major Israeli offensive against the Iran-backed militant group would blow those negotiations apart.
