The missiles will bolster the country's ability to intercept Iranian-designed Shahed attack drones
Ukraine will receive hundreds of anti-drone missiles from the UK this year to bolster defence against Iranian-designed Shahed attack drones, under a new agreement announced in Kyiv.
“We have an agreement on the delivery of hundreds of anti-drone missiles this year,” acting Defence Minister Yevgeniy Khmara said in a post on X on Thursday following talks in Kyiv with British Defence Secretary Wes Streeting.
The agreement comes as Ukraine warns that Russia is seeking to increase its ballistic missile production significantly before the colder months, raising concerns over renewed attacks on cities and critical infrastructure.
According to Ukraine’s Defence Ministry, the missiles will bolster the country’s ability to intercept Iranian-designed Shahed attack drones before they can strike civilian areas, infrastructure and homes. Britain, now being led by new Prime Minister Andy Burnham, has also reaffirmed its long-term military commitment to Ukraine, pledging support worth at least £3 billion (€3.5 billion) annually.
