Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos will depart the national team with a bonus after their Fifa World Cup exploits.
While over half of the R218 million windfall secured by the South African Football Association (Safa) from the Fifa World Cup will be channelled into grassroots development and administrative operations, the Bafana Bafana players coaches will be handsomely rewarded for their efforts.
The massive financial injection comes as a direct result of Bafana Bafana’s historic run to the last 32, which earned Safa a $12 million (R218 million) prize purse alongside a $2.5 million (R41 million) preparation grant ahead of the showpiece event.
Chairperson of the Safa Finance Committee Mxolisi Sibam confirmed to SABC Sport that the funding allocation was finalised following collaborative bonus negotiations with the squad, noting that senior players actively backed the reinvestment strategy.
"Ronwen Williams shared the same sentiment, saying that the Bafana Bafana players don't want all the money," Sibam told the state broadcaster. "What they want is to see us reinvest that capital so we can produce the next generation of talent. Those funds will be distributed right across the Safa ecosystem."
